About this project... First off, I did this for my Digital Imaging class at college. It was our first (and probably not last) photomanipulation project, working mainly with masks, layers, smart objects, aka simple stuff. For me anyways.

I really wanted to make something different. Not like the usual "Woah, you turned the earth into a marble" or the sort. Me, I'm a fan of the old monster movies like Godzilla and Rodan. So when I heard of a new movie coming out next year, I did some research about what the monster could be in the movie.

This movie doesn't have a title right now. It just has a bunch of speculation. The only thing most people are calling it is "1-18-08", because that's when the movie is going to be released, and that's when the events in the movie happen. Watch the trailer here: [link]

So as clues from this movie came out, I traced them back to this monster called Cthulhu, which was a creation of 1920's author H.P. Lovecraft. Really interesting stuff. I recommend people read "The Call of Cthulhu". You can probably find it online, as it is, for the most part, not protected by copyright, since it was made before the year the law states the copyright takes effect.

Anyways, as more clues come out, it points more and more to Cthulhu. And then reports started saying that it is a brand new monster that attacks NY. I'm fine with that. I just wish somebody would make a Cthulhu movie. A good one.

So, hence, this picture. I followed the tradition of the pics found at 1-18-08.com: [link] Cthluhu attacking a city. Complete with Cthulhi making their entrance. At least, from my visionary standpoint.

I wanted to make this picture look real. Like it really was taken at some point. I do think that this is my best photomanipulation I've done. However, like always, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Cthluhu image is from the Wikipedia article. Everything else was done by me. Picture was taken in Chicago. Meteors and explosion were all done in Photoshop CS2.
